Astrology rulerships FAQ

What is planetary rulership in astrology?

A ruling Planet works dynamically for the sign it governs. In a chart, it also works for the House in that sign. It brings its own qualities by sign and House to this work, adding nuance to the way you read the chart.

How do I find the ruler of a House in a birth chart?

Start with the House’s sign and identify its ruling Planet. Then look at that Planet’s sign and House placement. To start learning, you’ll need the AstroLingo app.

What is the difference between the House a Planet occupies and the House it rules?

The course uses the image of a tenant and an owner. A Planet gains experience in the House it occupies, where it is a tenant. It works for the House it rules, where it is an owner. What it gains through its sign and House experiences contributes to building the sign and House it governs.

Why can two people with the same Ascendant express themselves differently?

The Ascendant’s ruler adds nuance to it. The course compares two Cancer Ascendants, both ruled by the Moon. With a Capricorn Moon in House 6, the personality takes on qualities of responsibility and service. With a Scorpio Moon in House 5, it takes on a more passionate and creative dimension. The Ascendant’s sign stays the same, but its ruler brings different qualities.

Can a Planet rule more than one sign?

Yes. The course discusses Venus, which rules Taurus and Libra. Its principle of union, love and integration works differently in these two signs: in Taurus, through matter, the senses and pleasure; in Libra, through meeting others and seeking balance and harmony.
